Traditional Karate. Modern Purpose.

Traditional Karate. Modern Purpose.

JKA Shotokan Karate is one of the most respected traditional Karate systems in the world. At KJ Arts Centre, we teach it with structure, discipline and care, in a modern environment focused on real development, not watered-down training.

Known as the “Keeper of Karate’s Highest Tradition,” the JKA maintains the original techniques taught by Master Funakoshi Gichin, the founder of modern karate.

Technical Standards

Our training is built on the foundations of Kihon, Kata and Kumite, giving students a clear path to develop skill with precision and purpose.

Structured technical progression

Strong basics before advanced techniques

Rushed progression

Random, unstructured training

Poor habits passed off as progress

Character Through Training

Karate should shape more than movement alone. It should develop focus, resilience, discipline and self-control that carry into everyday life.

Confidence built through effort

Focus, resilience and self-control

Encouragement with accountability

Shortcuts to keep students happy

Ego-driven training culture

Purposeful Karate Culture

We honor traditional Karate while delivering it in a way that feels welcoming, professional and relevant for modern students and families.

Quality over hype

Small group attention

A pathway for real long-term growth

Tradition taught with purpose

Real development through consistent practice

What Makes Our Karate Different?

Not all Karate classes are built the same. Our approach is structured, technically grounded and intentionally kept small so students receive real coaching, clear progression and a higher standard of training.

Structured

We follow a clear pathway so students learn the right skills at the right time. Training is designed to build confidence, coordination, discipline and control through step-by-step development, not rushed progression.

Our classes are led by founder KJ Sethna, who brings over 20 years of teaching experience and has been training in Karate since 1996.

JKA Karate places strong emphasis on technique, posture, balance, timing, discipline and mental focus.

Tradition with real standards

Our Karate is grounded in recognized JKA methodology and traditional Shotokan principles.

We teach and train under guidance Shihan Keith Geyer of JKA SKC Australasia.

JKA SKC Australasia are aligned with the Japan Karate Association.

Focused Coaching

Smaller classes mean students are seen, corrected and supported properly. That leads to better technique, safer partner work, stronger focus and more meaningful long-term progress.

Our smaller class model allows for more feedback, closer attention and a more personal learning environment.

Students benefit from higher-quality coaching, better partner work and stronger long-term development.

The 3 K’s.

JKA is built on a clear technical framework that develops skill step by step.

Kihon (Basics)

Fundamentals that build stance, posture, coordination, breathing, and clean technique so students move with control and confidence.

Kata (Forms)

Structured sequences that refine timing, rhythm, focus, and precision. Kata develops technical depth and understanding.

Kumite (Partner training)

Progressive partner practice to build distance, timing, control, and composure. Safety and age-appropriate structure come first.

We avoid McDojo / Black Belt Factory type methodology that is commonly found around Australia.
