Known as the “Keeper of Karate’s Highest Tradition,” the JKA maintains the original techniques taught by Master Funakoshi Gichin, the founder of modern karate.
Our karate program follows the technical framework of the Japan Karate Association (JKA), built around Kihon, Kata, and Kumite.
Physical and Mental Training: JKA karate training fosters character, discipline, strength, and focus, aiming for the perfection of one’s character.
Scientific Approach: Our training incorporates a scientific approach informed by research and development in biomechanics to improve speed, timing, and efficiency of our athletes.
Global Presence: With a presence in over 100 countries, the JKA provides standardized, internationally recognized grading globally.
Core Philosophy: The goal is to train the body, mind, and spirit, ensuring that techniques are executed with precision and courtesy.
JKA Karate places strong emphasis on correct technique, posture, balance, timing, discipline, and mental focus.
Our training is structured, progressive, and age-appropriate, with clear expectations and standards at every level.
As part of the global JKA family, our educational philosophy of Martial Arts is to develop our students personality through vigorous training building character, discipline and respect.
Start Now with our Early Access Karate Classes in Feb 2026
As we setup KJ Arts Centre for its public launch in Q2 2026, we are providing Early Access Karate classes for families who want to begin training before the full KJ Arts Centre program launches in Q2 2026.
Students will receive structured, foundational instruction in a focused, small-group environment, setting the base for long-term progress.
At KJ Arts Centre, our karate program follows the standards and methodology of Japan Karate Association (JKA), the world’s most respected and widely recognised karate organisation started by Master Gichin Funakoshi in 1948.
Our classes are delivered by our founder KJ Sethna who has been teaching since 2005 and training in Karate since 1994.
We teach and train under guidance Shihan Keith Geyer of JKA SKC Australasia.
JKA SKC Australasia are aligned with the Japan Karate Association.
This ensures our instruction remains consistent with authentic JKA Shotokan Karate as taught internationally and students can train & compete anywhere in the world.
How does KJ Arts Centre differ from others?
We have capped group sizes which keeps quality high.
Our smaller classes emphasise improved learning, safer partner work, and stronger long-term development.
We avoid McDojo / Black Belt Factory type methodology that is commonly found around Australia.
